Over the last several months, we have seen our world as we know it forever changed. As we look to the fall semester, many students are considering ways they can learn, grow, and engage in relevant societal discussions. This week, Roya sat with Chauntae De Gannes, a Queen’s University alumnus, to discuss what that learning journey can look like.
Chauntae is a recent graduate of Queen’s University, where she studied Sociology with a minor in Global Development. Chauntae will be attending the University of Ottawa this fall to pursue her Juris Doctor law degree. She is an enthusiastic and intelligent leader with experience with government, educational environments, and the community. Some highlights include her previous work in the OPS for the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, Cabinet Office, Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry Land Resources I&IT Cluster. Chauntae is also an exemplary leader, as seen in her various roles, such as serving on the Queen’s Women in Leadership (QWIL) executive responsible for planning workshops & events, and the Queen’s Female Leadership in Politics executive as a year representative. Chauntae has also engaged with her faculty society as the Deputy Academics Commissioner and an Orientation Coordinator for the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS). Chauntae has held various leadership roles as a member of the Ministry of Education’s Student Advisory Council, and the fact that she was one of 338 women selected to sit in the House of Commons as a “Daughter of the Vote” in 2017, commemorating Canada’s 150th anniversary and 100 years of women having the right to vote.
"At the end of the day, social justice is everywhere- it's ingrained in how we function as a society..."
