Frequently Asked Questions
What is QUnited?
QUnited is a blog run by Queen's students, for Queen's students. Each day, we are exposed to numerous statistics on the virus, leading us to forget that those affected by the virus are someone's mother, father, sibling, friend, or otherwise. Each week, we will be conducting interviews with those who have valuable insights to share about the impact of COVID-19 on members of marginalized communities. We will also collect resources and amass them into a centralized database. We want to equip you with the tools to make a change.
What are the goals of QUnited?
Our site's purpose is twofold; to educate the public on the virus' impact on marginalized communities through interviews from members of those communities, and to provide a centralized source of resources for motivate readers to join the movement to provide better treatment for these communities. We want to use our platform to tell the stories of those adversely impacted by the virus to spread awareness and impose radical change upon the discriminatory structures that currently exist in our outdated laws.
Why the name QUnited?
We thought long and hard about a blog name. There were very many iterations on the name, but we were so happy when we finally arrived at this one! We wanted to name our blog something that would speak to our involvement with Queen's, but would also address the problems at Queen's we aim to mitigate and, hopefully, solve over time. The premise of this blog, as mentioned in the tagline in the header, is to unite the Queen's community, and with our school's shorthand being QU, we thought the name worked out perfectly!
What topics does QUnited cover?
In order to gain a more targeted approach and help better educate our readers, we have narrowed our focus to that of four marginalized communities: Indigenous people, Women, Black people, and those identifying as LGBTQ2+. We felt that these communities were those on two ends of a spectrum; either those Queen's needed the most improvement on with providing support, or those that Queen's had the best platform to leverage resources for. With that being said, we do want to hear from you! If you would like to learn about a specific topic, please do not hesitate to contact us!
How can I get involved?
In today's day an age, there is an overwhelming number of ways you can get involved! Advocacy comes in many different forms. You can educate yourself fully on a subject to understand the struggle and plight of the affected group. You can also look for organizations to join that will help to educate you and give you a platform to voice your beliefs to your extended community. QUnited wants to help you with that.
